The permit increases the chances of finding a parking space by stimulating turnover and eliminating the storage of non-resident vehicles. Participation in the program is limited to residents only. You must show the required proof of residency to the satisfaction of the RPP section. To be eligible for a permit the applicant must reside within the boundaries of that particular RPP area. Permits and passes are issued and valid for a one-year period from the designated annual renewal date for each specific RPP Area. They are Ridgely's Delight and Riverside. Two areas use virtual permits, which do not use any physical permits. Parking in each of these areas is restricted to some degree to provide preferential parking privileges only to those residents and their guests who display valid Residential Parking Permits and Visitors Passes on their automobiles. The RPP Program includes 48 designated RPP areas, each designated with its own specific number or letter. Participating neighborhoods elect to do so through an application by petition to the City of Baltimore through the Parking Authority of Baltimore City. The Baltimore RPP Program was begun in 1979 in an effort to address the specific needs of residents in city neighborhoods where the demand for on-street parking was considered to be greatest.
